The MEIT has responsibility for the installation of transmission equipment in the Central Office. An MEIT designs detailed Specs, hires vendors, and maintains project schedules/ budget correctness of all work. Finally, the MEIT audits and records all information in permanent records. Additional qualifications include organizational, problem solving and negotiation skills. Majority of equipment installed was fiber optic feed.

The Universal Engineer has the same responsibilities as the MEIT, along with the maintenance/growth of Central Office Switches. Specialized in Lucent and Nortel Switches.
